The following is my Personal Hunting Log, along with a few entries of my friends on their
successful nights.
I hunt using many methods, including scrape hunting, rattling, calling, trail hunting, and
baiting (legal again in Northern Wisconsin).
*Please Note* that if I mention that the deer were hit in the paunch, that this doesn't mean that
these deer were gut shot! Any experienced hunter knows that sometimes you're not presented
with a broadside shot, and due to the angle of the shot you must pass through the paunch to get
to the vitals!
I personally know of no deer that I, or my friends, have shot this year that were not harvested!
We do not take a shot if there isn't a kill shot presented.
We can all make bad shots, please strive not to take a bad shot! This is what the Anti-hunters
are looking for and talking about!
October 12- Work has finally slowed down enough to get out in the stand.
I sat my new stand location, and entered the stand at 4:15 pm. Temperature was 60 degrees,
cloudy, and threatening some light rain.
Not a whole lot to report, just saw a doe and 2 fawns this evening. It never did rain while I
was in the stand. The main thing is that I finally got to sit. Hopefully I will be getting out
much more in the next few weeks.
October 14- I decided to sit tonight, even though there was a pretty strong Westerly wind,
temperature was 70, and the skies were clear. I really didn't expect alot to move, and
unfortunately I was right.
I sat from 4 pm till 7 pm and never saw a deer. I am not real happy with the deer sightings at
this stand, so I am planning on moving to a new spot tomorrow.
October 15- I took down the stand that I have been sitting in, and moved it to my swamp
location that I harvested my nice 8 pointer last year.
Decided to hunt tonight even though the weather and wind was the same as yesterday. I sat
the swamp stand, entered the stand at 4 pm., and didn't see a deer until 6:15. It was a good
sized lone doe, which proceeded to feed around me until dark. Other than the doe, I saw 2
partridge, and a few squirrels. Not real exciting, and I can't wait until the weather starts to
cool down.
Tomorrow I'm going to check out the spot where I got the ten pointer a few years ago, and
possibly plan on placing a stand there again.
October 16- I spent the day scouting a couple areas that I have been successful at in the past.
The areas were my "Cut Across" stand, and the "10 Point" stand. The "Cut Across" stand is
nestled in a pine plantation, and the "Ten Point" stand is in a hardwood mixture of maple -
oak - and poplar trees. Both had deer sign, and there were alot of acorns under the oaks.
I do plan on hunting these locations in the next few weeks, just have to get my stands in
order.
Due to the weather being the same today as it was for the last two days, I decided to spend
the time scouting instead of sitting a stand. The deer haven't seemed to be moving much
lately, but hopefully we will be getting some colder weather in the near future.
October 22- I finally had things work out so I could get out in the stand. I had placed a stand
a couple of days ago at my old "Cut Across" stand location, that I have been successful at in
the past.
The weather was threatening rain, Northwest wind, and was 47 degrees. I entered the stand
at 3:30 pm.
4:00- I had a lone doe fawn come through, which just had a few faded spots on the top of her
back. Moved through the area for about 15 minutes, then moved on.
5:00- A doe and 2 fawns came in, browsed around for 20 minutes.
5:55- Another doe and fawn came through. I sat till dark and nothing else came through, and
surprisingly not a buck. During the drive home I never saw a deer, which was quite unusual.
I had heard that the deer had moved late the night before, which might explain it, and
eventually after dark it rained a little. I plan on hunting my other new stand tomorrow.
October 24- Due to the wrong wind and threatening rain, I didn't hunt last night.
I did hunt tonight at my new stand location. I placed a ladder stand, although I wasn't to
happy with only a 16 foot height. This stand is in the hardwoods and there isn't much cover
to utilize. I ordered a new climbing tree stand last night, so I only plan on using the ladder
stand until the new stand arrives.
I entered the stand at 3:30 pm. Not much happening tonight as only a nubbin buck entered
my stand area at 6:00. I'm not sure why the lack of deer movement lately, and the majority of
the other hunters I've spoken with report only seeing does and fawns. I'm going to check the
lunar tables tonight and see if I can see a relationship to the deer movement lately.
October 26- I went around today and checked my stand locations for buck sign. Both the
Cut-Across and the Swamp stand have fresh scrapes in the area, and the Swamp stand had a
nice rub that was made either last night or this morning.
I went out to the Swamp stand to place my Camtrakker, but after seeing the rub decided not
to chance spooking the buck. I would like to see what he is while I'm sitting before trying to
get any photos of him.
I decided to hunt the Cut-Across stand tonight as the wind was very light and from the
East/Northeast. It managed to sprinkle rain a half dozen times, but not much rain to speak of.
I entered the stand at 4pm.
5:15 - I finally saw some horns! I had about a 4 inch spike buck come in. He meandered
around for about 10 minutes until a noisy vehicle drove down the logging road in the woods,
which scared him off.
5:50 - 2 does came in from the South, and were within 15 yards of me at one point. They
stayed in the area for about 15 minutes and at 6:05 another spike buck came in from the
opposite direction that the last spike left. He proceeded to check out and chase the 2 does for
a few minutes.
6:13 - A 14 inch wide 8 pointer approached from the North and stopped at 16 yards when he
saw the spike. They both grunted, and I could have shot either buck at that point as they
stood there for 2 minutes. The 8 pointer saw the 2 does in the area and proceeded to go and
check them out.
Legal hunting time quit at 6:22 pm. , and being it was 6:18 I saw this as a good chance to get
out of the stand. Felt good to at least see some horns, and hopefully I will see even bigger and
better at the Swamp stand the next time I sit it.
October 27- I sat the Swamp stand tonight, and hoped that the buck that made the nice rub
would show himself. The weather was 58 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, and hardly any wind.
I entered the stand at 3:30 pm.
3:50 - I had a large doe come through, pass within 10 yards, and continue on her way.
5:35 - Another doe came in and browsed the edge of the swamp. She stayed in the area for
about 10 minutes.
Other than the 2 does, I saw a fisher, 2 red squirrels, several blue jays, and a woodpecker. I
think the weather was too nice for the deer to be moving early.
October 28- I decided to sit the Cut Across stand tonight. Weather was windy. Entered the
stand at 3:30 pm after placing 1 scent location using Doe Matrix doe in heat scent downwind
of me.
I had a doe and 2 fawns come through upwind of me ten minutes after getting into the stand.
Due to the circling windy conditions, the doe got a wiff of the scent and was too leery to come
in any closer. The 3 deer got out of the area rather quickly.
No other deer seen from the stand this afternoon. Hunting time came to a close, as as I was
climbing down the tree I had a deer bolt out of the area that was within 30 yards, but
couldn't be seen through the trees. When I got to my truck I had a deer bolt out from behind
my truck, and scared the living cr*p out of me. Saw 9 deer on the way home including a 4
pointer chasing a doe.
Youth hunt statewide tomorrow, and rain on Sunday, so no hunting till Monday.
October 31- I decided to sit the Swamp stand tonight, due to the recent buck sign there. I
entered the stand at 2:45 pm., weather was 50 degrees, cloudy, little wind.
3:00- I had 2 does come in and browse the area, ten minutes after they came in a very small 6
pointer came grunting in and proceeded to chase the does around. They ran off.
3:45- The 2 does returned to the area, without the 6 pointer. After about 15 minutes a 4
pointer with nice mass, and about 8 inches high came in and ran the does around. Again they
ran off out of the area.
4:20- The wind that we had died down to nothing and once again the 2 does returned. This
time they stayed for only a couple of minutes, then got spooked by an incoming grouse. They
snorted and ran out of the area. No other deer came in tonight.
At least the bucks are showing signs of the rut by chasing, hopefully the bigger bucks will
start showing themselves before dark. I plan on hunting tomorrow.
November 1- I sat the Cut-Across stand tonight. The weather was 47 degrees, slightly breezy,
and cloudy skies that appeared to be clearing. I entered the stand at 2:30 pm.
Nothing to speak of tonight, as the only deer that came through showed up as I was climbing
down out of the tree. I had a couple of guys shooting guns 1/2 mile to the Southwest of me for
the last hour and a half, and had the game warden pull a truck over on the road near my
stand. Their conversation was quite loud, and combined with the shooting kind of explained
why I might not have seen anything.
We'll see if I can get out tomorrow, but have to see how work goes.
November 2- I did manage to get out in the stand this afternoon. I sat the Swamp stand, and
the weather was windy and a warm 58 degrees. I entered the stand at 3:15 pm.
I placed some doe in estrus scent out and tried using the estrus bleat call.
4:40- A lone doe came in for about 15 minutes. No sign that she even smelled the deer scent
that I had out. She walked off into the brush.
5:00- Had a porcupine walk under me, and a minute after that had another lone doe come
through. She stayed for 10 minutes, and being that it was getting dark I thought I would try
the estrus bleat to see how she would react. She stood her ground for the first call, but after
the second call she was uncomfortable and wandered off. That was it for this evening, and I
wasn't surprised as the wind was quite strong (10 - 15 mph).
November 3- I sat the "Cut Across" stand tonight. The wind was 5 to 15 mph from the
Northeast, skies were cloudy and threatening a light rain. I decided to try laying a doe in heat
scent trail through the 3 scrapes on the main trail leading all the way to my stand (about 200
yards). I entered the stand at 2:45 pm.
4:00- a lone smaller doe came in from upwind and walked a half circle around me. The wind
was whipping pretty good yet and she was very timid. She walked off to the South.
4:20- I heard some noise off to the East, and saw a small spike buck chasing a doe down the
logged out hillside. A minute later the 2 deer ran within 30 yards of me. I tried using the
Estrus Doe bleat can while the buck was stopped 30 yards away, but the buck didn't respond
and seemed more interested in chasing the doe. They ran off to the South.
4:35- I had a 5 inch spike buck enter from the Northeast(upwind) and proceed to walk almost
underneath me. He stayed in the area for a few minutes, and then a nubbin buck entered
from the South. The spike buck went out to check on the nubbin buck, and proceeded to run
off the nubbin. The spike stayed in my area.
4:50- A doe entered from the South and was immediately followed by a 10 inch wide 6 point
buck. The doe saw the spike and decided that she was in a position she didn't like. She
high-tailed it out of there. The 6 pointer grunted toward the spike and they ended up nose to
nose. The spike realized he was out ranked and submitted to the 6 pointer, and he walked off.
The 6 pointer stayed for a bit, but eventually followed on the trail of the doe. No other deer
tonight.
One quick note. The "Bionic Blend" synthetic doe in estrus gel spray, which is a new product
made in Portage Wisconsin, didn't get one response from any of the bucks. I had 2 scent
posts next to my stand and 3 of the bucks were within 10 yards of them. Not even a sniff at
the ground or leaves. I am going to inform the local sportshop, where I bought the new scent,
about its' lack of attraction during tonights and last nights sit.
November 5- I decided to sit the swamp stand this afternoon. Very light wind and temp was
48 degrees. I placed 3 scent containers of Buck Stop Doe Matrix within 20 yards of me, and
entered the stand at 2:30 pm.
I had walked by a doe in the swamp on the way in, and before I even got a chance to put my
headnet on she came in. She stomped her hoof on every step, as she was smelling the scent
that I had placed. She eventually checked out the scent container and seemed to settle down.
She stayed in the srea for 10 minutes then walked down the trail.
4:30- I had a different doe enter. This one was smaller than the first, and worked her way
around me. She left after about 15 minutes. I tried using the estrus bleat can, but was never
able to draw any bucks in tonight.
November 6- I sat the "Cut Across" stand this afternoon. I made a scent drag rag and
created a scent trail through the 3 scrapes on the trail to my stand, leaving the drag rag 20
yards from my stand. Tonight I am using "Buck Stop" doe matrix scent. Weather was partly
cloudy, 50 degrees, and a 5 to 10 mph wind from the Southwest. I entered the stand at 2:30.
4:10- 2 does came in and browsed within 30 yards of me.
4:25- A large doe and her nubbin buck came in. The nubbin took quite an interest in the
estrus scent, actually getting his nose into the container of the scent that I had on the ground.
He eventually went over to the 2 does to check them out, but they wanted nothing to do with
him. One of the does raised up on her hind legs and took a few cracks at the nubbin with her
front hoofs.
The doe and nubbin eventually ended up walking off.
4:50- A 4" spike buck approached, grunting all the way in to the does. He did approach from
downwind, and I'm sure he was coming into the scent. He chased after one of the 2 does, and
eventually gave up and began to browse.
5:00- Just as it was starting to get dark, another buck approached from the same direction
that the first one did, and was also grunting.. The spike buck went out to check what was
coming in. He submitted to the other buck, which ended up being a 6 pointer. The 6 pointer
saw the does, smelled the scent, and immediately started chasing the does around. He made
quite a lot of racket as he chased them in a complete circle around my stand.
It got dark in 15 more minutes, and the bucks ended up running the does out of my woods.
Was a good time to get down out of the stand.
November 7- I tried the swamp stand today, and managed to get out a little earlier. I dragged
a scent drag rag with "Buck Stop" estrus scent along the whole 200 yard edge between the
pine plantation and the swamp, and ended at my stand. I entered the stand at 1:45, and the
weather was 55 degrees - sunny - and a light wind from the Southwest.
Being the fact that I got out earlier, I decided to try a little rattling and grunting, with an
occasional estrus bleat. I didn't really seem to get any response to the calling, and decided to
stop around 3:30 pm.
4:00 - 2 Large does entered from the swamp. They meandered around for 20 minutes or so.
4:18 - I heard a higher pitched grunt or bleat coming from the Southwest, and it ended up
being a nubbin buck. He must have been a fawn of one of the does, because he walked right
up to them and was accepted. The 3 deer continued to browse the area.
4:40 - A 6" spike buck entered from the Southwest and proceeded to attempt to chase the
does. They ran off quickly, and the spike didn't seem interested in chasing them around the
woods. He just stayed in the area for about 10 minutes, and eventually wandered off
following the trail of the does.
No other deer in tonight, and I know that I am getting tired of seeing does, fawns, and
smaller bucks. The rut is hopefully coming soon, probably the end of this week, and maybe I
will start seeing some of the nicer racked bucks.
November 8- Weather was threatening rain, and temps were 50 degrees. I decided to sit the
"Cut Across" stand in hopes that the deer would feed early. I entered the stand at 2:45.
2:50- Before I even got my face net on, I had a Doe and nubbin buck come in. They browsed
for quite a while (45 minutes) and moved on. Unfortunately there were no other deer seen
tonight. Kind of a disappointment for the weather the way it was.
November 10- Due to 45 mph winds yesterday, I decided not to hunt. I did get out in the
stand today though.
I sat the Cut Across stand this afternoon. The weather was sunny, 55 degrees, and hardly any
wind. I entered the stand at 3:00. I had a feeling that the deer were probably going to move
late today
As it turned out I was right. I didn't see a deer until it was getting dark. I had a doe and fawn
enter, which had a spike buck trailing them. No other deer came through and I left the stand.
I am about ready to pull this stand, as I feel that I have probably seen all the deer in this
area, and haven't seen a shooter buck.
November 15- Due to prior engagements and work, I wasn't able to hunt for the past few
days. I did manage to get out last night and pull the "Cut Across" stand, and do a little
scouting for a spot for me on opening rifle season.
We have rain, and 3 to 5 inches of snow coming tonight. I decided to sit for the afternoon in
a new location. I used my "Tree Lounge" climbing treestand for the first time, and climbed
into the stand at 12:00 noon. The rain had just begun, and I knew it was going to last all
afternoon.
I tried a little rattling, and grunting, with a few doe in estrus bleats occasionally. Nothing
seemed to be interested or hearing me.
Didn't see a deer until:
4:15 - A doe entered the hardwoods from the brush, about 40 yards from me. I knew by the
way she was acting that she had something trailing her. I waited patiently, and a 15" wide 8
pointer entered. He proceeded to walk past the doe and started browsing at 18 yards from
me. The doe would come within 5 yards of the buck, then run a complete 40 yards circle
around him. She did this half a dozen times, and seemed to be trying to taunt the buck into
chasing her. The buck just lunged at her a time or two, but never gave chase.
Although the 8 pointer gave me plenty of opportunities for a shot, he wasn't what I wanted to
end my season with. I decided to pass on this buck. The rain contributed to that decision also.
4:30 - A spike buck entered from the same trail as the 8 pointer and doe did. The 8 pointer
was still below me, and the doe had just gone into the first 5 yards of the brush. The spike
came within about 30 yards of the 8 pointer and then froze. The 2 deer stared at each other
for a minute, then the 8 pointer walked off into the brush to keep up with the doe.
4:40 - The 8 pointer was still in the brush, and let out a grunt, sniff, weaze. Sounded like
someone releasing an air pressure hose. I didn't think he would be doing that to the doe, so
hoped that another buck was in the brush with them.
Unfortunately darkness set in before I got a chance to see anymore action. I climbed down in
darkness and scared the spike buck off. It never did quit raining the whole time I was out in
the stand, and I was pretty soaked by the time I got out of the woods. At least I saw some
buck action, and hopefully I will get a chance to get out tomorrow, but that depends on the
weather.
November 17- It was too windy, and work was busy enough, to keep me out of the stand
yesterday.
I decided to sit tonight, being it was the last day before the rifle season shut down. I decided
to sit the stand I placed for opening rifle season, just to see what might be moving there. The
weather was a chilling 16 degrees with about 3 inches of fresh snow. The wind was light out
of the South.
I crawled into the stand at 3:00 pm.
3:03 - Before I even got a chance to get my cat quiver of my back, I had a fawn followed by a
10 inch wide 6 pointer come through. The deer are still rutting in our area, and I was
expecting to see the fawns by themselves. The six pointer just passed by at about 25 yards,
and kept on the move. The fawn browsed at 15 yards from me, and then walked out into the
field.
4:20 - 2 fawns came browsing up the hill from the swamp, ended up walking underneath me,
and continued there browsing out into the field. No other deer showed themselves tonight.
No hunting allowed tomorrow, and going to get ready for rifle season on Saturday.
Rifle Season
November 19- Well Rifle Season is here, and my daughter "Ashley" and I set out to our
stands. Ashley is still in search of her 1st buck. I placed Ashley on the swamp stand, and I sat
my ladder stand location that I sat on the 17th. We entered our stands at 6:00 am., and the
weather was a warm 34 degrees with no wind.
Ashley's morning sit:
6:45 - A doe and fawn came in and browsed for a while. They eventually moved on.
7:10 - A nubby buck came through the area.
7:30 - A small doe fawn came in, browsed, and moved on.
7:55 - A 4 point buck entered from the swamp, and due to the position of the stand and a few
limbs, she wasn't able to get a shot at it. It walked off a minute or two later.
8:35 - She heard a grunting coming from the plantation, got excited that a buck was coming,
and watched another nubbin buck come through. She was a little disappointed it wasn't a
better buck.
Sat till 11 am. and no other deer were seen.
My morning sit:
I kicked up a couple of deer on the way into my stand. They sounded like they ran down into
the swamp.
7:15 - A had a 10 inch wide 6 pointer show himself for a few minutes at about 50 yards. He
seemed to be looking for does, and moved on.
7:40 - I heard noise from the East and proceeded to watch 2 large does come running through
on a dead run. It appeared that the does had gotten kicked out of the piece of woods across
the road from me, and they never slowed down as they passed within 5 yards of me.
8:30 - 2 fawns came up the hill from the swamp and headed out to the grass field in front of
me. They browsed in the tall grass then disappeared into the distance. No other deer were
seen this morning.
Ashley's afternoon sit in the swamp stand:
Between the hours of 2 pm. and 4:45 Ashley saw 2 fawns, 1 doe, and 3 partridge. Not alot of
excitement for her tonight.
My afternoon sit in the ladder stand:
I basically saw the same class of deer as Ashley.
3:45 - A nubbin buck came up the hill and went into the grass.
4:25 - Another small doe fawn came up the same trail as the last deer, and ended up out in
the grass field.
4:40 - A medium sized doe walked through on the trail below me, which borders a swamp.
That was it for the deer tonight.
November 20- Ashley and I decided to sit the same stands as we did yesterday. The weather
was 30 degrees, but there was a stiff wind out of the Southwest. Once again entered the
stands at 6:00 am.
Ashley's morning sit:
6:50 - A doe and fawn entered from the hilltop and walked underneath her, continuing down
the trail.
7:20 - A nubbin buck came in from the swamp and slowly worked its' way out of the area.
7:55 - A small doe came in from the plantation and walked through the swamp edge. No
bucks presented themselves this morning.
My morning sit:
6:50 - a small buck fawn came up the hill from the swamp, and walked right underneath my
stand. It continued on its' way to the field.
7:25 - A larger doe came walking up the swamp edge and stopped to browse occasionally. She
stayed within range for about 10 minutes.
7:50 - A very tight horned 6 pointer came walking down the same trial as the doe. He stopped
on the trail long enough for me to check him out in the scope. You could have fit a coffee cup
over a 6 of his points, and it was kind of amusing to see his small rack. No other deer in this
morning.
Ashley's afternoon sit:
We decided to sit Ashley on my stand this afternoon, being that I was seeing some smaller
bucks that she would be happy to shoot. I sat the swamp stand.
4:20 - A doe came walking up the trail next to the swamp. She stopped to browse every now
and then, but kept looking behind her.
4:30 - A deer came walking down the same trail as the doe did. It stopped at 25 yards away
and Ashley could see horns. She thought it was the wider 6 pointer that I saw on opening day.
She had a front on shot and decided to take it. The buck and doe ran off in different
directions. Ashley heard what sounded like thrashing, and then saw the doe return. She called
me from her cell phone to let me know what had happened.
I had only seen a nubbin buck and a small doe fawn. I had heard a nearby shot and knew
from the direction that it was Ashley. My heart skipped for a second or two, as I knew that it
means that she finally got a shot at a buck. I figured that she would call me, which took all of
about 2 minutes. She told me what had happened, and I climbed down to go help her out.
When I arrived at Ashley's stand she was quite excited. She was a little worried about the doe
coming back, but I told her not to worry about that. She had taken good notice on the bucks
reaction and the direction that it ran, and knew that she had taken her time on the shot. We
proceeded down the swamp trail and began looking for blood. We didn't find any blood in
the first 20 feet, which got Ashley worried, but when I told her that I found blood at the 30
foot mark she perked up. The buck had turned into the swamp, which still had a little snow
in it, and the blood started to flow well. We found the buck about 20 yards into the swamp,
and she was quite excited when I told her it was an 8 pointer.
I am just so happy that Ashley has finally got rewarded with a buck, for all of her time in the
stand in the last 5 years.
Below is a photo of Ashley, and her 1st buck.
Now that Ashley has bagged her buck, I will try to balance work with hunting, and get out
there when I can. Hopefully I can find that wall hanger that I'm looking for! Stayed tuned!
November 23- I finally managed to get out in the stand this afternoon. I had to work the last
2 days. I decided to sit the "Swamp" stand that Ashley originally sat the first couple
mornings of the rifle season. The weather was 38 degrees and the wind was picking up and
gusting at 25 mph at times, due to a cold front coming in. We had received about 2 inches of
new snow last night, but it was melting pretty quickly. I entered the stand at 3:00 pm.
4:10 - I had a 14 to 15 inch wide 6 pointer come in. His left main beam had the last inch
broken off, but was still a pretty decent 6 pointer. I just watched him walk through, as I am
still waiting for a better buck.
4:22 - A 6 inch spike buck came through and browsed for about 10 minutes. As the spike
buck was still in the area, a nubbin buck came in. He walked over to the spike and tried to
check him out, but the spike showed his dominance, dropped his head and kept pushing the
nubbin away. The two bucks eventually moved on, as the wind was really starting to gust. I
left the stand at 5:00 pm.
The weather tomorrow is supposed to drastically change to heavy winds and a high of 18
degrees. I'll have to see what the weather actually does to determine whether or not I will
hunt tomorrow.
November 25- Decided to spend Thanksgiving with the family, so didn't get out in the stand
yesterday. I did sit the "Swamp" stand this afternoon.
Not too much to speak of as I only saw 1 doe and 2 fawns. The weather was 18 degrees with
no wind. Being that the woods were very quiet, I fully expected to have more action tonight,
but no such luck.
November 26- I sat the ladder stand where Ashley shot her 8 point on the 20th. Weather was
26 degrees with a Southeast wind and clear. Going to get some rain, drizzle, and snow late
tonight and through to morning. Maybe the deer would move tonight. Entered the stand at
2:00 pm.
Pretty slow tonight. I had 2 hunters come push the woods that my stand is in, so didn't expect
to see a lot.
Only 2 deer seen tonight, and they came in behind me at dark. They were 2 small does that
went to the grass field, then got spooked by something and ran back down into the swamp.
Hopefully a little more action tomorrow.
November 27- Freezing rain in the morning kept me out of the stand. I did sit the afternoon
in the "Swamp" stand. The weather was a steady drizzle of rain and 41 degrees, with a slight
East wind.
I entered the stand at 2 pm. and sat through 3 hours of rain and fog. I thought I might have a
good chance of seeing the deer move, as the rain is supposed to turn to snow. No deer seen
this afternoon, and only heard 2 shots while I was in the stand. Kind of an uneventful end to
the rifle season, but I am very happy that Ashley got her first buck. Maybe I will still get out
and do a little more bow hunting, if I get the chance.
Sorry that I never closed out this hunting log, I thought that I had. I never did get a chance
to get out in the stand after rifle season ended. The main reason was work, and the fact of
the limited length of daylight.
As you can see on the "2005 Highlights" Page, I have kept up with the local guys trip to
Iowa, and added several trophy photos. I also noticed that I never closed that page out either,
which I will do now. Sorry once again for this, and I am looking forward to next years
seasons. Until then.....Mr. Whitetail
