Just some quick notes on the Pre-season scouting (9-2-01):
There are still a large number of deer in the Northern Region, although deer sightings
are down compared to last year.

The acorns are falling heavily on some trees, while the trees next to them are hardly
dropping any. This is probably due to the fact of the lack of Summer rain.

The deer don't seem to be in their fall habits yet, and aren't working the fields.

The apple trees (if you can find them) are heavy with apples, and are dropping.

Some hunters are reporting the seeing of scrapes already.

Looks like some warm weather left for the early season, but hopefully will cool.
Bow Season started on September 15th in Wisconsin!!
This is the first photo my camtrakker took this week at a new stand site of mine.
Not too shabby!!
Same Buck, next night!

More Camtrakker photos in the 2001 Hunting Log!

I am limiting the use of my camtrakker this year in an attempt to see if the flash
is spooking away larger bucks. I'll let you know what happens!

Lance uses the 35mm Camtrakker and its' flash isn't quite so bright. It also only
flashes at night, while mine being a digital camera requires more light and starts
using the flash an hour or more before darkness. Lance will continue to use his
Camtrakker and I will be posting his pics when I get them. As I stated earlier, I
will use mine, but only on a limited basis.

**Keep checking in for any new information that I will be adding as it comes in.

So far, the season is not going well. Numerous hunters are complaining of only
seeing smaller Bucks, if any. Many of the hunters that were in the area have
headed for home, but I'm sure they will be back around Thanksgiving.

Lance and Doug's crew harvested 14 Bucks with the biggest being a beautiful 9
pointer, which was taken by Lance during a deer drive. The majority of the Bucks
are smaller racked, and they have turned down numerous smaller Bucks. Below is
a photo of the group and Bucks taken
Included on the Buckpole above is a real nice 9 point Buck, it was harvested by
Lance during a deer drive. Here is a better photo of the Buck.
Also included in the Bucks above is a 7 point Buck that was harvested by Derek
Denninger (Doug's Son). He is 12, and this was his first year rifle hunting.
Congratulations Derek!!! Below is a photo of Derek and his Buck.
The Waggonner crew harvested 16 Bucks, with the biggest being harvested on
Tuesday, while making a deer drive. It was a 140 class 9 Pointer. They turned down
numerous smaller Bucks. See photo below, some are missing, as they were taken
home already.
I harvested a 5 pointer on Tuesday, and still have hopes on Ashley shooting the
10 Pointer. I have a work schedule to work around, and decided to take the smaller
Buck to devote my time to my work, and Ashley's hunting.
Well, the season ended, and Ashley never got her chance at a bigger Buck. The
majority of the hunting crews in the area complained of few deer and
smaller Bucks. I will get some pics of the few nicer Bucks that were taken, when
I receive them.
Late Bow Season Bucks
Randy Visger arrowed this nice 8 pointer on December 6th, 2001.
There has been a couple other nicer Bucks shot this late season, but I haven't
got the pics yet. I will post them when I receive them!

That's all for now!
